Gypsy and Ethyl

Organized by Majestic Giants Great Dane Rescue - Vader

Heartbreak!
Three weeks ago, we got a call about a young Dane puppy who needed a new home due to a newborn (premie) baby in the home.

We called our friends at Dames for Danes for some assistance, and between the two groups, we were able to accept this little girl into rescue.

Gypsy is only 8 months old. She was born a Christmas puppy. She is one of the most beautiful blue merles we've ever seen. She has an outstanding personality, gentle, well behaved, good with all dogs, cats, and children. She is going to be someone's life-long soul mate.

But then, on Sat, she started vomiting, and refused to eat. At first, we thought she may have overheated on the 90+ degree weather during playtime. But once she cooled down, she seemed tired and lethargic. Sunday showed no improvement in energy, and she added loose, watery, dark stools to the vomiting. We hoped against hope, but an emergency trip to the vet this morning revealed our worst nightmare.

She has Parvo.

She was so weak, despite our start on antibiotics, fluids, and Parvaid Sunday night, that she could not walk on her own into the vet's office. Her temp is 106!

Gypsy is strong, and was very healthy before she caught this hateful virus. We have hope for her full recovery, but she is VERY sick.

We are asking now for your support for Gypsy. She needs prayers, blessings, and of course, financial support. The total estimated cost for her round the clock care is approx. $1400.00. This is largely due to her size, and the strong risk of secondary infection.

We all know that shelters will euthanize dogs with Parvo. The costs to treat it are high on a good day, and with young puppies, the chance of survival is often low. Many rescues will also choose to "let them go to Jesus", because the dollars used to save one Parvo puppy could save several adults. We too have made that choice before, because the pressure of the sheer number of unwanted and abandoned Danes sometimes forces us to.

But Gypsy is special. She is your dog. She is my dog. She is everyone's beloved pet, suffering from a horrible disease. She has a perfect temperament. She is large for her age. She is strikingly beautiful. She is strong, and has a spirit I have not seen since Spirit herself.

Please help us save this special girl. Please stop now and plead to God that he gives her the strength to survive. Please pray for her Doctors and staff. Dr. Deford, Lisa, Pam, Charlene, and the whole crew at John Sevier.

When you're done, please call them at 865 579 1090 and tell them that you are praying for their success, and for Gypsy. You can also leave a donation by credit card for her by calling this number.

Anything over the needed amount for Gypsy will go to help Ethyl. More on her story later.
